Interpreting in Community Settings – The Foundational Program
Our foundational training program covers the essential skills and knowledge required to start working as an interpreter in community-based settings. It also lays the groundwork for additional studies in sector-specific work environments such as healthcare and legal settings.
You’ll come out of this lively and intensive program with the core skills and competencies required of work-ready interpreters and the required foundation you’ll need for our advanced programs.
This training program is designed for fluent bilinguals who want to transition into a career as a community interpreter. It is a prerequisite and must be completed for our subsequent training programs.

Why Should I Take the Community Settings Foundational Training Program?
Bilingualism and language fluency are gifts and valuable skills. But they’re only one of many qualifications needed to work effectively as an interpreter.
Our Community Settings Foundational Training Program teaches bilinguals the important building blocks for working as an interpreter in community-based settings. It also sets the foundation for you to continue your learning in order to pursue work as a healthcare or court interpreter.
In addition to covering the intricacies of translating language fluency into a career, our foundational program offers the critical mental, ethical and professional skills required to succeed – whether locally or abroad.
This program also serves as an excellent refresher for practicing interpreters who have not been in a learning environment for some time, and it gives our graduates the foundation they need to begin working immediately.

Fluency is understood as the ability to speak, read and write in a language with accuracy and ease on a variety of general topics. Our courses do not focus on translation – the written form of language conversion – but you are required to read in English and your other working language. |

Community Settings Foundational Training Program Content
The Community Settings Foundational Training Program covers everything you need to know to succeed as an interpreter. This Program will also help prepare you for the Certified Community Interpreter Exam (CTTIC)
