On June 17, 2016, the government of Canada passed Bill C-14 which makes MAiD legal for Canadians that meet the criteria set out in the legislation.

Federal legislation sets out the eligibility requirements for MAiD, the procedural safeguards for protecting patients, and the process by which MAiD can be provided.
